the Scottish Highlands

Greetings from a green valley of silver birch, golden eagles (!) and intermittently-blue skies!

Currently I'm spending some quality-time with the gang in tomich (not the one you may be thinking of!) This Tomich is tucked away near Glean Afraig (see photo). This place marked our lunch stop on our first cycle ride of the holiday, in which I very nearly acheived the 26 mile journey. I think I did about 24 but I never reached the end due to a puncture which took 4 repairs and a very kind passer-by to get fixed!

Right now the rain has arrived (it caught up with us yesterday on another cycle trip and caused much hilarity in the form of wet clothes and muddy faces.)

Im here for a few more days to enjoy the forest walks, swimming, cycling and swallows/ swifts (how do you tell the difference??) darting among the rooftops. Not to mention many cups of warm tea. ah tea.

Oh, and there is 1 downside to this idyllic place: the midges. They mean you cant enjoy a well earnt rest anywhere, cos the moment you stop...

  2. I learned the difference! Swallows have white tummies and longer forked tails. Swift are black all over and have shorter black tails. Good to know, eh? xx
