pebbles and festivals

In teacher training in the UK they love to play the game "Can you find 100 uses for a paper clip?", teaching the value and skill of lateral/creative thinking. I remember feeling despondent that I really could only come up with 2 or 3 novel ideas. Well folks, I'm proud to say that with a combination of 3 - 4 years teaching experience and finding myself in rural Nepal (being handed various classes with no preparation time and no resources) I have found verging on 100 marvellous and engaging uses for a pebble. My improvisation skills are being honed satisfactorily! :)

Recently class 3 were learning about collective nouns and to end we played 'categories', which I feel my sister would have enjoyed. (She always did win at Christmas). Ok, This particular game did not involve pebbles. KG (reception age) used pebbles to throw onto chalked numbers on the floor, to practice reading/ saying numbers.
Class 5 used a pebble to throw to one another to play 'word association' to quicken their vocabulary recall.
Class 4 played 'hunt the pebble' as they were learning prepositions in English... and so on. To share your own creative pebble-and-chalk ideas please write a comment below! Teaching is all about sharing ideas!

There have been 2 festivals since last week. One was Shivaratri, the other Tibetan new year. This has therefore involved taking part in puja (Hindu worship) with much incense, ghee and flower-throwing; learning to dance to the sound of tambourines, and eating far too much food.
