As you may have guessed, we´ve been travelling the length and breadth of this gorgeous and ridiculously LARGE country. We´ll spare you the details of the long journeys- save gloating over how we survived precarious mountain bends, potholes and extremely enthusiastic travelling companions in the form of bus drivers.
Kuelap was beautiful and old if rainy. and we saw bones!!!! lots and lots of bones of the people buried over 500 years ago in this ancient fortaleza. The altitude was still rough.
chachapoyas had lovely hot and steamy showers as well as comfy double beds in HUGE, clean rooms. we were sad to leave.
the next stop was moyobamba, as the journey was too long to Yurimaguas and we wanted to break it before it broke us. We finally got to Moyo after a full day´s travelling. When we arrived someone finally thought to tell us the road was closed between our next stop (Tarapoto) and our destination (Yurimaguas). soo, we were stuck.
From Yurimaguas, we had planned to take a 2 day boat trip to Iquitos - the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road. It{s boat or plane. So, with the road closed and dangers of revolts from the local indigenous groups in Northern Peru (you may have heard about the tragic events in Bagua recently) we had no choice but to plane it.
And so, we arrived in Iquitos with a day to spare to plan our trip deeper into the jungle...
The jungle photos are yet to come. And the stories that go with it... :)
yay, check my blog! glad to see you are having fun xxx
